    We care about your health, your mind and you! Nearly twice as many 10th Graders in Port Angeles use vape, compared to 10th Graders in Washington State. (HYS, 2021) To keep our youth healthy, and prevent nicotine dependency in our youth, we are promoting local businesses to card young looking people.   • Updated Needs Assessment

    Results from the 2021 Healthy Youth Survey, a statewide survey of young people focused on their health behaviors, are now available. Data suggests mental health challenges and declines in substance use.

  • Youth Substance Use Prevention - Why Here?

    Most students in the Port Angeles School District do not use substances, yet improvements can be made to reduce underage misuse and abuse of alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and other substances.

    In 2021, Port Angeles became one of the newest editions to the statewide Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative, a long-term funding opportunity for prevention services in Washington State.

  • 2022 Community Survey Results

    To assess and respond to the needs of young people in Port Angeles, the Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition conducted the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative Community Survey during 2021 and 2022.

    Our participant numbers were too low for our results to be statistically valid, however, we’re still looking at the responses to understand the perspectives and priorities of the 202 residents who completed the survey last year.

    We strengthen our upstream efforts by integrating national, state, and regional resources; sharing materials and information from other prevention programs; and relying on strong bodies of research literature and emerging science.
